The final HSC mark obtained by NSW students in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics is made up of two components – the school-based assessment mark and the HSC exam mark. Each component contributes equally towards a student’s final HSC result.
In early Term 3, students at most NSW schools will sit for a series of Trial HSC exams. The exams are usually designed to mirror the content and level of difficulty of the HSC papers. The aim of these exams is to give students an opportunity to test their knowledge and level of understanding of each course under exam conditions, as well as to provide them with feedback on their strengths and weaknesses. This allows students several weeks to address any major concerns prior to the start of the HSC exam period.
In most schools, the HSC Trial exams contribute the largest part of the school-based assessment mark – typically between 30% and 50%.
To assist students to prepare for these very important exams, Quantum Tuition has organized a revision program in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2.
Each course will be revised over two full days by one of our experienced and dedicated teachers. The days begin at 9am and finish at 3.45pm, and are divided into three sessions each of length 1 hour 45 minutes. Students will have a 30 minute break between the first two sessions and a 1 hour break for lunch between the second and third sessions.
The Mathematics program consists of six sessions over two days. Students will be provided with an extensive series of questions in each session, which will be worked through by both the teacher and the students. The questions will be similar to those that are typically asked on HSC Trial Exams and they will cover content from all topics in the course, including the Preliminary course. In the HSC Trial Exams in Mathematics, between 20% and 30% of the paper will be based on the Preliminary course. There will be ample opportunity for students to ask and answer questions throughout each session.
The Chemistry and Physics programs each consist of six sessions over two days. The main aspects of the three core modules will be revised separately, each over two sessions. Where appropriate, parts of the skills module will be integrated into these sessions. Both of these programs will include:
- A teacher led discussion to revise the main parts of each of the core modules. While students will be able to ask questions to clarify their understanding, it should be noted that this program is designed to revise work that they have already covered. The time allocated to any one area of each module will be limited. This will ensure greater coverage of each module.
- A teacher led discussion on how to structure answers to typical extended response questions. This will include analysis of the language used in the question so that students can provide an answer containing what is actually required of them.
- A student work book containing a range of typical exam questions. These questions will be integrated into each session so that the work is covered in a methodical manner. Emphasis will be placed on fine tuning answers to achieve maximum marks.
Students will need to make their own arrangements for meal breaks as food will not be provided. However, the Food Court in Hornsby Westfield is less than 50 metres away. There is no parking available on the premises so students intending to drive will need to park off-street. The building is fully air-conditioned.

We aim to keep the cost of the program as low as possible as many students may wish to revise several courses. If students attend for the full day (i.e. all 3 sessions), the third session is free of charge. That is, students who attend for the full day only pay for the first two sessions.
The cost per day for each subject is $110.
Registration for the revision program will close on 22/06/2010. Please fill in and submit the form below if you are interested in booking a place in our HSC Trial Revision Program. Check the box next to each of the days you wish to attend. We will contact you as soon as possible to advise whether a place is available in the group. If a place is available, you will be provided with details to pay for the program. Payment can be made by either cheque or direct deposit. Due to the high demand expected and the limited number of places available, students cannot be registered until full payment has been received. Refunds will not be given after the closing date. Confirmation of registration will be sent to you after your payment has been received.
